The Cayuga County Health Department and Cayuga County Elementary Schools will join schools
from across the United States to celebrate Walk to School Day. Walk to School Day, officially
held on October 7, 2026, raises awareness of the need to create safer routes for walking and
emphasizes the importance of issues such as increasing physical activity among children,
pedestrian safety, traffic congestion and concern for the environment. The events build
connections between families, schools, and the broader community.
Walk to School events in Cayuga County will be kicked off the week of September 28
th at the
following schools.
• Millard Fillmore Elementary on Tuesday, September 29, 2026
• A.A. Gates Elementary on Wednesday, September 30, 2026
• Weedsport Elementary on Thursday, October 1, 2026
The following week, Auburn Enlarged City School District will participate.
• Herman Ave Elementary on Monday, October 5, 2026
• Owasco Elementary on Tuesday, October 6, 2026
• Casey Park Elementary on Wednesday, October 7, 2026
• Genesee Elementary on Thursday, October 8, 2026
• Seward Elementary on Friday, October 9, 2026
Parents and guardians are kindly asked to leave the cars parked in their driveways and take a few
extra minutes to walk their children to school. Information will be sent home with students
promoting the events. Students are encouraged to review the educational material within the Walk
to School flyer with parents and guardians before walking to school.
